Vaughan bucket list spots to visit

Every year around this time, don’t you get the feeling that summer is passing by too quickly? Many of us wait all year for glorious patio weather, summer festivals and fun seasonal activities under the sun, only to realize Labour Day is right around the corner. So, now is the time to make the most of the remaining warm weather by checking these quintessential Vaughan experiences off your summer bucket list.

Bucket list item #1: A thrill-filled day at Canada's Wonderland

There isn’t a more exciting summer activity than spending a day – or three – at Canada’s Wonderland (1 Canada’s Wonderland Dr.). There, you can experience more than 200 attractions including 17 roller coasters, games and live entertainment. Then there’s the 20-acre Splash Works water park, which is the perfect way to cool off. You can enjoy 17 different water slides, dare yourself in a drop launch chamber or relax while the kiddies cool off in the wading pool.

Pair your Canada’s Wonderland bucket list experience with an overnight stay at TownePlace Suites by Marriott Vaughan (231 Cityview Blvd.). It’s a new hotel and well worth checking out. Why? Because after enjoying fireworks or evening rides, you can rest easy knowing your family or group has a comfortable place to stay nearby.

Bucket list item #2: Stroll the fields of Robintide Farms

If you’re looking to relax in nature, Robintide Farms (2720 King Vaughan Rd.) offers a wonderful opportunity to create great summer memories. A day at Robintide offers seasonal flower picking, pick-your-own vegetables and a peaceful countryside atmosphere to stroll through. Bring your camera, or simply use your phone, and capture some memories of the flower blooms and cornfields.

Pair your Robintide Farms experience with a stop at nearby Fleur De Lys Bakery (120 Eagle Rock Way). Here you will find a French-style artisan bakery and café specializing in butter croissants, almond and seasonal pastries, danishes, tarts, as well as sandwiches made with artisan sourdough bread. They also serve premium coffee, espresso drinks and specialty teas.

Bucket list item #3: Fill your basket at the Woodbridge Village Farmers Market

Don’t let summer pass you by without heading over to the Woodbridge Village Farmers Market (9201 Islington Ave.). Browse fresh organic vegetables and fruit, enjoy the aroma of yummy breads and baked goods, select flowers and bouquets, buy preserves and honey, and peruse artisan vendors. It’s a great opportunity to get to know some local growers while supporting their small businesses. They’ll appreciate it, and you’ll enjoy your purchases for days and weeks to come.

Pair your day at Woodbridge Village Farmers Market with a delightful brunch in Kleinburg Village at Kleinburg Kafé (10480 Islington Ave.). This local spot offers great coffee, brunch, lunch and wonderful desserts. During the summer, they offer outdoor seating if you want to enjoy your meal or snacks in the fresh air.

Bucket list item #4: Indulge your sweet tooth at Local Café

There really is nothing better than a frozen treat on a hot summer day. Local Café (10489 Islington Ave.) has everything from frozen yogurt to creamy affogatos, to homemade pasta lunches, premium club sandwiches and some delicious desserts. The café also offers gluten-free and vegan options. Stop in for a sweet treat or enjoy something from their lunch menu. It’s a one-of-a-kind treat in Vaughan this summer.

Pair your delightful meal with a visit to some interesting historic landmarks in Kleinburg Village. Just up the road, you’ll find Klein House (8 Nashville Rd.), which operates as a local museum. Or there is Pierre Berton Heritage Centre (10418 Islington Ave.), where an exhibit showcases Canadian history as told through the writings of Pierre Berton.

Remember, summer memories aren’t made by staying home. They’re made by saying yes to adventures, fresh air, great food, and spending time with family and friends.
