Devoted to Canadian art
The McMichael Canadian Art Collection, located in Kleinburg, is a beautiful place to visit both inside and out. It is located on the original lands of the Ojibwe Anishinaabe People, uniquely situated along the Carrying Place Trail. This trail historically provided an integral connection for Indigenous people between Ontario’s Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe-Georgian Bay Region. McMichael houses a permanent collection that consists of more than 6,500 works by historic and present-day Canadian artists, in addition to its many touring exhibitions.
McMichael also has stunning outdoor trails, where you can connect with nature and admire the beauty of the outdoors. Explore 100 acres of forested land in the Humber River Valley through a network of outdoor paths and hiking trails. During your walk, visitors can explore the Ivan Eyre Sculpture Garden, a series of installations and outdoor sculptures, along with a number of other spectacles to see.
Art in the downtown
Step into ArtWalk: a world-class art installation featuring 30,000 square feet of four bold, colourful statement murals. Native Torontonians birdO and Ben Johnston, Montreal artist Jeremy Shantz, and Madrid-based Ricardo Cavolo brought a pop of colour and unique creativity to Vaughan’s downtown core.
While you’re there, be sure to check out Canada’s largest low-resolution art installation: PXL Gallery. This 10,000 square feet luminous art wall is a stunning addition and will serve as a rotating gallery for years to come.
