Things to do in Thornhill

Let’s take a tour of Thornhill, a robust neighborhood of excellent restaurants, bars, cafes, history, culture and activities located in the east end of Vaughan. SYMPOSIUM CAFE RESTAURANT

You can start your day in Thornhill with breakfast at Symposium Café Restaurant (8187 Yonge St.), but there’s no law against going back again for lunch and dinner as well.

With a huge range of dishes, from brunch to dinner to late-night desserts and drinks, any time of day, they’ve got the solution for your hunger and thirst. Call it upscale casual dining, serving gourmet comfort food set in a Renaissance theme – that’s Symposium Café Restaurant!

 

CENTRE STREET DELI

Looking for great food and an old-school New York deli atmosphere? Head on over to Centre Street Deli (1136 Centre St.), or “The Deli” as they have come to be known by their regulars. Serving traditional deli fare, a meal here features high-quality ingredients expertly prepared in the tastiest hand-cut smoked meat deli sandwiches. And don’t forget the fresh-cut fries! Beyond their signature selection of deli and non-deli sandwiches, they offer soups, salads, omelettes, and a kid’s menu destined to make your whole family’s mouth water.

SUGARBUSH HERITAGE PARK

The rush of fresh air and the feeling of exercising your body and mind are unbeatable!  For those who just need to spend some time outdoors, is Sugarbush Heritage Park (91 Thornhill Woods Dr.), just alone the southernmost boarder of Thornhill. It’s an outdoor park, set in beautiful woodlands that features a 2.4 km walking trail surrounded by untouched nature. This park also features a playground, community gardens and parking on site. Parking, washroom facilities and resting areas are available off Thornhill Woods Drive.

UPLANDS GOLF AND SKI CLUB

You wouldn’t normally think of golfing and skiing in the heart of Thornhill, but amazing things can happen at Uplands Golf and Ski Club (46 Uplands Ave.). For skiers, come experience the vertical drop of some 30 metres and slopes of varying difficulty averaging 300 metres in length. Uplands is the perfect environment for beginner skiers and snowboarders of all ages. If you’re a golfer, this club boasts one of the top 500 golf holes in the world. It’s a 9-hole emerald ideal for events and tournaments.

MACDONALD HOUSE

When you visit MacDonald House in the heart of Thornhill, you’re viewing one of the most historically significant buildings in the area. Occupying four scenic acres at 121 Centre St., MacDonald House (121 Centre St.) is a preserved cultural site. In 1913, it was the home of famed Canadian painter, J.E.H. MacDonald, a founding member of the Group of Seven and then his son, Thoreau MacDonald, until the 1980’s. “The Tangled Garden”, one of the most famous Group of Seven paintings was painted right on these grounds.

EAT SOME MORE - GOURMET GROCERY STORE

South African gourmet grocery store, Eat Sum More (7700 Bathurst St. Unit 6), caters to the cravings and needs of anyone looking for South African cuisine. All products are made on-site. The meats are fresh and tasty, their Boerewors and Droewors are all made with 100 per cent beef. And believe the reputation, Eat Sum More is the place for Biltong and all sorts of South African treats and necessities. Check it out!

PROMENADE SHOPPING CENTRE

For decades, Promenade Shopping Centre (1 Promenade Cir.) has been the preferred shopping destination in the heart of Thornhill’s upscale community. The mall offers over 150 stores and services including premium brands like Bath and Body Works, Forever 21, Honey, Jollibee, Rexall, Roots, Foot Locker, St. Louis Bar & Grill, T&T Supermarket, Imagine Cinemas and much more. Plus, Olive Branch, Bowls & Blasters and Pickleplex Social Club are now open! Shop, dine and play in the hub of Thornhill Village.
